WHAT WAS KEPT
The Fragile Space Between Preservation and Release explores what happens to objects when the person connected to them is no longer here.
Rooted in my father’s collection of driftwood, the installation reflects on memory, attachment, inheritance, and the tension between keeping and letting go.
Unable to discard these objects, yet uncertain how to preserve them, I began to work through acts of wrapping, binding, and reconfiguring. Through this process, the driftwood is transformed from a personal collection into a sculptural field of care, memory, and emotional repair.
I wanted to explore how inherited materials can acquire a second life, where transformation becomes an act of attention, and memory itself becomes a new form of function.
