SEA OF THREAD

Sea of Thread is an immersive textile installation that explores memory, transformation, and the invisible bonds that connect us to one another. Through slow, repetitive acts of embroidery, the work reflects on how experiences become embedded in material and how making can preserve what words often cannot express.

Composed of 82 unique embroidered fish suspended in space, the installation creates a floating landscape of colour, texture, and movement. Individually distinct in colour, pattern, and stitch language, each fish contributes to a larger collective rhythm, echoing the balance between individuality and connection.

Suspended at varying heights, the fish invite visitors to move beneath and around the installation, where shifting perspectives, light, and subtle movement create an ever-changing environment. The work draws on the symbolic qualities of fish—their movement through unseen currents, their adaptability, and their quiet persistence—to reflect on continuity, resilience, and the ways experiences shape us over time.

Through colour, repetition, and the accumulation of handcrafted forms, Sea of Thread transforms thread into an immersive material language, inviting moments of contemplation, connection, and wonder.
